Marywood University’s Physician Assistant (PA) program was named among the Top 15 Physician Assistant Schools in Pennsylvania by Turbo Scholars. The ranking, in no particular order, lists some of the best schools in the state of Pennsylvania offering PA programs.
Marywood University was among Money’s 2020 Best Colleges. When ranking colleges, Money’s 2020 Best Colleges used 27 factors under the umbrella criteria, which included quality of education as 30 percent of ranking; affordability as 40 percent of ranking; and outcomes as 30 percent of the ranking.
Marywood University offers the “Best Value” among Northern Regional Universities, according to the 2020 U.S. News & World Report’s Best Colleges ranking. Marywood was also one of only two regional institutions included in U.S. News “Best Colleges for Veterans” category.
Marywood University announced that it would become one of a select number of colleges and universities across the nation to offer a competitive esports program. Marywood is responding to the ever-increasing number of students seeking this option, as the esports industry continues to explode throughout the country. Marywood University’s Board of Trustees recently approved a measure for the University to move forward with an Esports Program in fall 2021.
Marywood University’s Art Department announced its new minor in Animation. The 18-credit minor can be added to any undergraduate degree.
Marywood University’s first-ever Virtual Community Leadership Celebration took place on Thursday, September 17, 2020, honoring The Judge Richard P. and Marion Conaboy Family. Marywood joined the honorees in saluting Marywood students, alumni, and community members working on the front lines. Funds raised through this year’s Community Leadership Celebration (CLC) totaled $280,000. Beginning in 2014, to date, the CLC, held annually, has raised $2.5 million dollars for the University.

Sister Mary Persico, IHM, Ed.D., President of Marywood University, was honored by the Board of Trustees with an endowed scholarship in her name to celebrate her 50th Jubilee. Since professing her vows in 1970, Sister Mary has been and continues to be, a servant leader.
Marywood University was named a Platinum Winner among The Times Leader’s NEPA Best Places to Work in 2020. The NEPA businesses were separated into tiers including Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum. Marywood University was notified that the University ranks among The Best Value Colleges in Pennsylvania in 2020. Marywood University ranks #17 by bestvalueschools.org for both its traditional and online delivery formats, as well as its tuition, faculty-to-student ratio, graduation rate, and acceptance rate, to name a few.
Marywood University is one of the 2021 Best Allied Health Professions Schools according to Health Care Degree Search. Allied health encompasses a broad group of health professionals who use scientific principles and evidence-based practice for the diagnosis, evaluation and treatment of acute and chronic diseases, promote disease prevention and wellness for optimum health, and apply administration and management skills to support health care systems in a variety of settings.
Marywood University was the recipient of a 2020 Robert H. Spitz Foundation Grant. The grant was awarded to the S.T.A.R.S. (Students Together Achieving Remarkable Success) program, an after-school mentoring program. The Robert H. Spitz Foundation has made a positive impact on Scranton’s growing Latinx population through its grant support of the University’s S.T.A.R.S. program.
Marywood University received a $200,000 grant to The Donald B. and Dorothy L. Stabler endowed Scholarship fund, which was established in 2020 with a gift from the Foundation in the amount of $385,000.
February 22, 2021, marked 50 years since a massive fire destroyed the Motherhouse and Seminary on the campus of Marywood University. The blaze, which displaced sisters, demolished a beloved landmark and left numerous sisters and first responders injured, incredibly did not result in any loss of life.
Marywood University’s Truth, Racial Healing, and Transformation Campus Center held “The Black Voices Speaker Series” on several dates in March and April. Marywood University ranked #8 in Best in Pennsylvania Offering Architecture Programs, #14 Best in Pennsylvania Offering Legal Professions Programs, #15 Best in Pennsylvania Offering Environmental Studies Programs, and #15 Best Mathematics Schools in Pennsylvania in the PLEXUSS 2021 Global Ranking. All of the rankings are based on the University’s undergraduate programs.
Marywood University earned top ranking for Best Online Master’s in Higher Education Degree Programs by Intelligent.com. Additionally, Marywood University received a unique distinction for Best Catholic University.

Marywood University’s Graphic Design program ranked among the top 10 in Pennsylvania, and its Illustration program ranked number 4 in the state and number 18 on the east coast for 2021, by Animation Career Review.
Marywood University School of Architecture students won first place in the Attached Housing Division of the 2021 U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon Design Challenge. The students’ design is the Electric Jane—an affordable, net-zero energy prototype for Habitat for Humanity.
Marywood University’s Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) was notified by the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association that they are the first-place winners of the Student Advocacy Day Public Service Announcement (PSA) Project.

Marywood celebrated its One Hundred and Third Annual Commencement Ceremony, which honored the graduates of the class of 2021. The commencement speaker was playwright Stephen Karam.
Marywood held its 8th Annual Community Leadership Celebration, Inspiring Social Justice, in the Motherhouse and Seminary Morgan Memorial Garden. The honorees were Jim and Cathy Gavin of Scranton. Funds raised at the 8th Community Leadership Celebration (CLC) exceeded $325,000.
