The University recently named Michelle T. Ketten, M.S., to the role of assistant director of advising and career development.
Michelle began her career as an undergraduate student in the psychology program at Marywood University, from which she attained a bachelor of science degree in 2008. She went on to earn her master of science degree in higher education administration from Marywood in 2013. Additionally, she is proud to have met her husband, Kristopher Ketten ’06, a graduate of the criminal justice program, at Marywood. Michelle and Kristopher are the parents of their two-year old son, Blake.
Prior to working at Marywood, Michelle served as the assistant director of admissions at Lackawanna College, where she helped facilitate the launch of their four-year degree programs by heading up the enrollment and recruitment efforts. “I am proud that I was a part of working with the school’s inaugural bachelor degree program,” she said.
Michelle’s knowledge of Marywood, as a graduate and, now, as an employee, along with her decade of experience in the field of higher education, strengthens her current role as Marywood’s assistant director of advising and career development. Her work connects two areas that have a natural cohesion and are vital to student success. Michelle advises, guides, and supports undergraduate students so they can successfully transition into and through their Marywood experience. She also works with undergraduate and graduate students throughout their academic careers and with alumni to help build their resumes, find their passions, and develop their careers.
“I knew at this point in my career, I wanted deeper involvement in the holistic development of the student. When this opportunity presented itself to help students progress in their academic and career goals at Marywood University, a place about which I am very passionate, it was the perfect position, time, and place. Working at Marywood University is similar to coming home,” she said.
This key understanding of where the University has been, combined with great motivation for where it is going, keeps Michelle enthusiastic about new initiatives on campus such as Project Mint, the University’s brand refresh project. Since the offices of advising and career development are crucial to Marywood’s ongoing growth and success, Michelle, who is part of the Project Mint action team, feels energized about the University’s progress. She appreciates the University’s core values and rich traditions, which are deeply rooted in her life, as well as the opportunity to give back to Marywood students and alumni, by helping them cultivate experiences that will enhance their personal and professional growth.
Her favorite place is at the heart of the University's beautiful campus—the Learning Commons, “This innovative space lends itself well to the collaborative and social learning that is so vital to the true Marywood student experience,” Michelle said. Her office, conveniently located in the Learning Commons, gives students and alumni easy access to vital advising and career development services.
