Marywood University’s Chapter of the National Student Speech-Language-Hearing Association (NSSLHA) was recently notified that its Chapter earned Gold Chapter Honors for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Chapters who earn Gold Honors are credited for “increasing awareness of communication disorders among state and federal legislators and across communities; supporting clients, students, and organizations in their community; creating vibrant online conversations in the NSSLHA Community; providing monetary donations to support various organizations in the community and scholarships for students in Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) programs.”

During the 2019-2020 year, Marywood’s NSSLHA Chapter provided monetary donations and community service to the Alzheimer’s Association. The Chapter was also recently honored with a similar award from the Pennsylvania Speech-Language-Hearing Association (PSHA). Andrea Novak, associate professor of practice in the CSD program at Marywood University, serves as the advisor for the University’s NSSLHA Chapter.

Marywood University’s NSSLA Chapter consists of approximately fifty student members from the undergraduate CSD and graduate SLP programs. Officers for the 2019-2020 academic year included Maggie Carter, Archbald, Pa., president; Andrew Montgomery, Lewistown, Pa., vice president; Katelyn Gjini, Ramsey, N.J., secretary; and Emily Salvatierra, Rye Brook, N.Y., treasurer.
