Cultural Affairs Committee

Purpose & Function

The Cultural Affairs Committee supports cultural enrichment and entertainment to the Marywood University campus community. The Committee encourages greater student involvement in University life, manifests Marywood's active commitment to the cultural enrichment of the surrounding community, and enhances the public image of the University.

The Cultural Affairs Committee

  • plans and executes an annual program of lectures, cultural offerings, and workshops for the benefit of students and the community during the fall and spring terms;
  • maintains an updated mailing list;
  • organizes an effective promotional program, promotional pieces, and coverage for each program;
  • attempts to attract nationally renowned speakers as part of the cultural affairs offerings.

Membership

Vice President for University Advancement
Four full-time faculty members
Two undergraduate students
Two graduate students
Director of Diversity Services

Faculty members are selected by the Vice President for Academic Affairs.

The undergraduate students are appointed by the Executive Board of the Student Government Association in consultation with the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Success.

The graduate students are appointed by the President of the Graduate Student Council in consultation with the Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Success.

Faculty - three years
Students - one year

Meetings

Meetings are held at the call of the Chair. Special meetings are called particularly during the planning stages for the annual program of events.

    08/27/04 - Change of students' term to one year from two approved by the Vice President for University Advancement
    05/06/08 - Title changed to Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs
    07/10/10 - Membership revision approved by the Vice President for University Advancement
    07/01/11 - Title changed to Vice President for Academic Affairs
    08/01/14 - Membership revision to reflect title change from Vice President for Student Life to Vice President for Enrollment Services and Student Success for student appointments.
    09/05/18 - On August 14, 2018 at Cabinet meeting, a decision was made by the Cabinet, and approved by the President, to sunset this Committee during the 2018-2019 academic year, given the lack of resources to support the Committee's efforts.
