Jason Bugno, 2010

Math Teacher, Scranton Preparatory School

I work for Scranton Preparatory School. The members of Marywood’s math department teach much more than math skills. They teach you how to think. They challenge you to discover and use new concepts and ideas to solve problems.

What year did you graduate from Marywood?

I graduated in May of 2010. Having transferred into Marywood at the start of my sophomore year, I did lose some credits. But, with the help of my adviser, Dr. Johnson, I was able to graduate on time.

What is your current employment?

I currently work for Scranton Preparatory School teaching a variety of math courses including Algebra I, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Probability and Statistics.

How did your math education at Marywood prepare you for your current job?

The members of Marywood’s math department teach much more than math skills. They teach you how to think. They challenge you to discover and use new concepts and ideas to solve problems. There are still instances when I will reference one of my textbooks or a part of my notes from a college course, and bring that particular skill into the high school classroom.

What are your favorite memories as a math / math secondary education major at Marywood?

A math department is a good group of people that made my three years at Marywood very memorable. The trips to different math conferences were certainly enjoyable. Math department parties and gathering helped to build friendships between fellow students and faculty, which ultimately translated into a better, more enjoyable classroom atmosphere.
