MFA in Graphic Design or Illustration

Marywood’s Master of Fine Arts (MFA) program is a 60-credit low-residency program designed specifically for working professionals: art directors, graphic designers, illustrators, educators, and other artists who have to budget their time and resources carefully, while continuing their full-time occupations. While production and technical skills are stressed, the thrust of our program is on creativity and conceptual thinking.

Low-Residency, Independent Study

One-third of the course work (20 credits) is delivered through independent creative problem-solving experiences. The other two-thirds (40 credits) consist of lectures, summer classes, and study tours in New York City and other major cities. You can complete all program requirements in just three years through 4 two-week residential summer sessions at Marywood, 6 study tours, and independent work. Scholarships, grants, and other financial aid are available to those who qualify.

Renowned Faculty

We believe that working directly with successful designers and illustrators is the best way to improve your own work. Our MFA program offers personal, hands-on training from prominent artists, like Ed Brodsky, Steven Brower, Seymour Chwast, Ray Cruz, Lisa Cyr, John Gall, Melanie Mall, Megan Halsey, Zina Saunders, Nancy Stahl, Craig Welsh, and Chistopher Zacharow.

Study Tours

Twice a year, students in Marywood's MFA program meet in New York City, Boston, or another large city to tour the studios of well-known designers and illustrators and visit ad agencies, museums, and professional organizations.
