Kathleen Gerrity, MS, RDN, LDN
Class of 2013
M.S. and Dietetic Internship in Nutrition & Dietetics
After graduating from Immaculata University in 2011 with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics, Kathleen began graduate school and her dietetic internship at Marywood University and was fortunate enough to receive the I.H.M. Graduate Merit Scholarship for the 2011 to 2012 academic year. Upon completion of the internship program, Kathleen passed her national examination to obtain her credentials as a registered dietitian. Then, in 2013, she graduated with a Master of Science in Nutrition.
During her graduate studies, Kathleen completed her thesis, entitled “Identifying the Relationship between Average Meal Intakes and Level of Satisfaction with Mealtime Environment of Long Term Care Residents”. Additionally, she was privileged to have this research accepted to and displayed at the national Food & Nutrition Conference & Expo in Atlanta, GA in October 2014.
Currently, Kathleen is employed by Morrison Senior Living as a Nutrition Care Manager in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In this role, she manages the daily tasks and staff of the nutrition services department and oversee the nutritional care of the facility’s long term care residents and skilled rehabilitation patients as well as offer outpatient nutrition services to independent residents. She is also involved with Morrison Senior Living’s Dignified Dining Program, which aims to enhance the dining experience for long term care residents with dementia. Previously, Kathleen worked as an outpatient dietitian with an emphasis on medical weight loss, diabetes management, and pre- and post-bariatric surgery.
The education, experience, and support Kathleen received from Marywood University are of immeasurable value to her. First, the skills, hands-on practice in the field, and knowledge she gained through the dietetic internship allowed a seamless and confident transition into the working world. Secondly, the academics were challenging, yet relevant to what she would need to apply in the field. Lastly, Kathleen was constantly supported by the Nutrition & Dietetics department; the staff genuinely wishes for their students to succeed and to be contributing members of the profession. Kathleen had intelligent and hardworking teachers and mentors during her time at Marywood, many of which have turned into valuable professional peer relationships, and she always found it motivating to be surrounded by such talented registered dietitians.
