"I am the first in my family to attend college. When I walk across that stage at graduation, it will be a proud moment for me and my family."
When Brandon Sodani (Class of 2018) had to choose where to pursue his college degree, Marywood caught his eye for many reasons - including the beautiful campus, strong Catholic values, and the financial support he was offered. But one especially stood out.
"The main reason I choose Marywood University is because of the family feel it has here," Brandon said. "It’s a small close knit campus, so the professors really get to know your name…everyone here just really cares about students, and they’ve really helped me grow into my own."
Brandon studies accounting, a field he said he is prepared to excel in thanks to Marywood. But Brandon also appreciates the way he has developed as a person while studying here.
"Everyone here has really helped me grow into my own," Brandon said. "The greatest lesson I have learned is the importance of teamwork."
As the first person in his family to attend college, Brandon said he is eager to do well not only for himself, but to inspire his younger sister to do the same.
"I know I’m a role model for her...everything that I do she is looking up to me for," Brandon said. "I want her to see that it is possible for us as first-generation students in our family to go to college and to get a degree and to get a better lifestyle for ourselves.
