Joseph Guida '21
Joseph Guida ’21 followed both of his passions in order to realize his purpose. Joe is a Marketing student at Marywood, but that is only half of his passion. When not in the classroom, you can find Joe on the turf field where he is a defenseman for Marywood’s Men’s lacrosse team. The ability to succeed as both a student and an athlete was one of the deciding factors in Joe joining the Marywood community.
“I chose Marywood because it gave me the ability to get a great education while playing the sport I love, which is lacrosse,” said Guida.
Joe continued to say the small class sizes and attention from professors was another deciding factor. “Being a small school, I am able to get more attention from professors and build great relationships with them.”
As is the case with so many of Marywood’s students, Joe is able to enjoy his college experience thanks to financial aid and contributions from donors.
“The financial aid I receive allows me to get a great education without having to worry about a large student debt,” said Guida. “I would like to thank our donors for giving current students the opportunities made possible by their donations. Your donations give us the ability to learn from the top professors in NEPA as well as the best facilities in which to do so.”
Aside from state of the art technology, creating a relationship with your peers is critical to the learning process. Much like a team needs to function with trust and synergy, the same relationships are necessary for success in the classroom and life. Joe believes he has built those relationships at Marywood.
“The greatest lesson I have learned while at Marywood is how important relationships are especially with our alumni. My favorite thing about Marywood is the people here.”
One might think it nearly impossible to excel in the classroom and on the field; but bolstered by those close relationships, Joe is proving to be a force to reckon with in both areas. Joe points to making Dean’s List all but one semester and being named second team all-conference for lacrosse as a couple of his crowning achievements at Marywood.
As his academic and athletic careers wind down, Joe has an eye to the future. He said his goal is to work for a top marketing agency in New York City.
In reflecting on his time at Marywood, Joe feels there is one thing that stands out above the rest - the people of the Marywood community. “I have met so many incredible people during my time at Marywood and these are people who I know after my time is up next May I can turn to and will still be connected with.”
Joe is going to savor his last year at Marywood, though. In his final year of undergrad, Joe is determined to achieve his goals in the classroom and prevent goals on the field.
