Build Together: Building-based, management-focused, Construction Management program in a collaborative learning environment with partner programs that take a building from idea to execution.
Marywood University’s Construction Management program focuses on buildings and the business and logistical management of their construction. The program emphasizes ‘inter-professional education’ in which Construction Management students learn along side architecture, interiors, and business students to discover the roles and values each profession brings to the design, financing and construction of a building. This experience mirrors the collaborative dynamic that exist is in the real-world of building development and execution yet few other Construction Management programs offers this learning environment. Our integrative curriculum uniquely connects business practices, construction knowledge, emergent building technologies, and design practices. We teach core professional construction management competencies alongside design/build practices, sustainable construction principles and novel problem-solving skills to prepare our graduates to address complex situations in the construction profession.

Additionally, the Marywood liberal arts core allows students to approach problems critically and innovatively.
Marywood’s Construction Management program participates in the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE) Mentor Program. As part of ACCE’s five-year process for new programs on the path to full accreditation, Marywood University is a Prospect School, currently in a mentoring partnership with The Ohio State University.

Construction Management Courses:
CM 110: Introduction to Construction Management
Introduction to concepts and principles of construction management. Management operations and practices will be explored in a lecture/discussion format, and various activities and assignments.

12. Understand different methods of project delivery and the roles and responsibilities of all constituencies involved in the design and construction process.
CM 120: Surveying
Introduction to surveying practices, applications and surveying instruments. Students will apply knowledge and principles gained in lectures to hands-on assignments.

11. Apply basic surveying techniques for construction layout and control.
CM 210: Graphics for Construction Management
Introduction to the means and conventions of communicating design and construction information graphically. Students will develop the skills to accurately read and produce graphic communications, including, but is not limited to, construction document conventions and organization.

7. Analyze construction documents for planning and management of construction processes.
CM 220: Construction Contracts and Design-Build Practices
Examination of construction contracts and their administration according to the various interests of contractors and construction managers. Typical contract documents will be studied along with contract components, contract types, subcontracts, supply contracts, bidding and award of contracts, negotiation, claims and disputes, changes to the work, time and cost, correction of the work and contract completion. Design-build contracts will be emphasized.

CM 310: Site Planning and Equipment
Examination of construction scheduling methods in managing, site planning practices, and the equipment necessary to manage construction projects.

CM 320: Costs and Budgeting Strategies for Construction Management
Introduction to methods for construction cost estimating. Issues addressed include general principles of measuring work and preparing quantity takeoffs. Students will create construction project cost estimates.

CM 321: Technologies of Construction and Construction Management
Survey of the latest technologies involved throughout the Construction Management Industry.

CM 410: Construction Accounting and Finance
Advanced study of construction cost estimating. It examines accounting systems and reporting methods in a construction management financial system.

CM 411: Construction Planning and Scheduling
Examination of construction scheduling methods for managing construction projects.

Examination of safety issues in managing construction projects with a focus on regulatory guidelines, risk management and ethical principles.

CM 421: Construction Management Capstone
Application of course materials covered in the four-year curriculum to a construction management project scenario. Students will apply skills they have learned in previous coursework to solve construction management problems. The course will include collaboration and communication skills through written submittals and report writing, oral assignments, and facilitated classroom discussion.
