Distinguished Visiting Artist Lecture Series
The Marywood University Department of Visual Arts DISTINGUISHED VISITING ARTIST LECTURE SERIES presents a lecture by New York painter JOANNE GREENBAUM on Wednesday March 29 at 3:30 pm. This special event will take place in Comerford Theater in the Science Center at Marywood, and will be followed by a reception in the Shields Visual Arts Center. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
Joanne Greenbaum’s playful abstractions approach painting with a sense of liberation. Her canvases don’t follow proscribed formulas of conventional painting, but rather continuously test and expand the possibilities by which painting can evolve.
Ms. Greenbaum lives and works in New York. Over the past ten years she has participated in numerous group shows in the U.S. and Europe and had solo exhibitions at Rachel Uffner Gallery and D’Amelio Terras in New York, greengrassi in London, and Galerie Nicolas Krupp in Basel, Switzerland. In 2008 a career-spanning survey of her work was mounted at the Haus Konstruktiv museum in Zurich. She has received numerous prestigious awards including a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Joan Mitchell Foundation Grant, a Pollock Krasner Foundation Grant, and the Gwendolyn Knight Lawrence Award from the Academy of Arts and Letters in New York.
The Marywood University Department of Visual Arts takes great pleasure in hosting this important and valuable lecture. Audience members will have an opportunity to meet the artist at the reception immediately following the lecture.
