Mandy Cano Villalobos is an interdisciplinary artist whose work focuses on history, the passage of time, and the nature of memories. For Cano Villalobos, materials are inseparable from the art itself. Tea bags, hair, fabric, and ashes are just some of the unconventional means by which she executes her work, employing both their ordinariness and their fragility. The symbolic nature of her chosen materials allows Cano Villalobos to weave forgotten narratives into the patterns she creates, addressing concepts such as private ritual and cultural history through a meditative repetition of physical labor. 

Mandy Cano Villalobos earned her BA from Asbury University in Wilmore, KY and her MFA from The George Washington University in Washington, DC.  Her work has been featured in numerous exhibitions at venues including the Ruth and Elmer Wellin Museum (Clinton, NY), Maryland Institute College of Art (Baltimore, MD), the Ukranian Institute of Modern Art, (Chicago), The Museum of New Art (Detroit, MI), Gray Contemporary (Houston, TX), Hillyer Art Space (Washington, DC) and La Casa Pauly (Puerto Montt, Chile). Cano Villalobos has also received grants from multiple organizations including the Puffin Foundation and the Henry Institute. She currently resides in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
