Distinguished Visiting Artist Lecture Series
The Marywood University Art Department DISTINGUISHED VISITING ARTIST LECTURE SERIES presents a lecture by New York sculptor/multi-media artist RUTH HARDINGER on Monday March 26 at 4:00 pm. This special event will take place in Comerford Theater in the Science Center at Marywood, and will be followed by a reception in the Shields Visual Arts Center. The lecture and reception are free and open to the public.
Ruth Hardinger’s socially conscious artwork, signified by her deep connection to materials and influenced by environmental issues, is expressed in her sculptures, installations, paintings, works-on-paper, pigment prints, and photographs. Her work has been shown in numerous solo and group exhibitions in the US and abroad.
A passionate advocate for protecting the environment from industrial exploitation, Hardinger co-organized Art and Activism against the Drill, at Exit Art and Cooper Union/Institute for Sustainable Design, and received a Marfa Dialogues/NY grant to support her collaborative project with Rebecca Smith, an exhibition and panel discussion about fugitive emissions of methane gas.
Hardinger, a resident of New York City, earned a Bachelor of Arts in Classical Studies (Magna Cum Laude) at Hunter College, City University of New York. She was a recipient of the prestigious MacDowell Travelling Scholarship, and Institute for International Education Fellowship sponsored by the Fulbright Foundation.
