EXAMINATION INFORMATION AND RESULTS
Counselor Preparation Comprehensive Examination (CPCE) (http://www.cce-global.org/AssessmentsAndExaminations/CPCE )
The CPCE is designed to assess counseling students' knowledge of counseling information viewed as important by counselor preparation programs. The online questions are based on the 8 core areas defined as essential by the Council for the Accreditation of Counseling and Related Educational Programs (CACREP). Offered three times per year, the CPCE is used by the Counseling program as an exit exam and is required for graduation for all students. To pass on the first administration, students must obtain a score that is within one standard error of the national mean.

National Counselor Exam (NCE): (http://www.nbcc.org/nce).
The NCE is used for two purposes: (1) national counselor certification and (2) state counseling licensure. The purpose of the NCE is to assess knowledge, skills, and abilities viewed as important for providing effective counseling services. It is intended to assess cognitive knowledge which should be known by all counselors regardless of their individual professional specialties. The online exam consists of 200 questions, 160 of which are scored. Passing scores are based on statistical analysis. Although the NCE is not required for program graduation, students are strongly encouraged to take the exam because of its similarity to the CPCE and it being a requirement for counseling licensure in Pennsylvania.
