Serving and Understanding our Veterans: Suicide Prevention, PTSD and Trauma Treatment, Regional Resources
In order to better serve the military affiliated population, it is essential that civilian professionals have a better understanding of the military and veteran mindset. This program will give information on the complexities of military culture, the ins and outs of the VA healthcare benefits system, veteran suicide, and the unique challenges associated with PTSD; all of which will provide a better understanding of how veterans think and operate in the classroom, professional settings, and in their day to day lives.

Tails for Troops
Marywood University Student Veteran Alliance hosts an annual spring semester event, Operation: Tails for Troops, to raise money for a non-profit organization that provides service dogs for wounded military Veterans with Post Traumatic Stress or Traumatic Brain Injury.
This is a free service offered to the Veteran. This event features a K-9 dog pageant, with local celebrity judges, a Police K-9 demonstration, and performance from a local dog training facility. This event also offers Basket Raffles, 50/50 Raffles, local vendors, music by Rock 107, and local animal shelters (featuring dogs for adoption), and much more.

Veterans Day
Since its organization, the Marywood University Student Veteran Alliance has hosted events to honor and support local veterans on Veterans Day. Events have included, the Flags for the Fallen display, which consists of placing over 6,800 American Flags to represent each of the fallen next to the Veterans Resource Center, participating in the National Moment of Silence, working with ROTC members to act as honor guard and the playing of TAPS.
The Student Veteran Alliance also sponsors a luncheon honoring local veterans, placing a memorial wall for students to leave messages for veterans, and providing a carnation fundraiser where students can purchase carnations to give to a veteran or lay at the flag display. The club's Veterans Day events have been well received and have attained local and National media attention every year, enhancing the reputation of both the University and of the veterans on campus.
