Marywood University Held Its 8th Annual Community Leadership Celebration Honoring Jim and Cathy Gavin for Inspiring Social Justice
Marywood University’s Eighth Annual Community Leadership Celebration, Inspiring Social Justice, took place on Thursday, June 10, 2021, honoring Jim and Cathy Gavin of Scranton.
Nearly 300 people gathered outdoors in the Motherhouse and Seminary Morgan Memorial Garden to celebrate this exceptional couple. Sister Mary Persico, IHM, President, proudly bestowed the Lead On Award to Jim and Cathy Gavin, honoring them for their community leadership, their selfless work for the benefit of Marywood students and the greater community, and for making our area a better place to live, work, and raise a family.
Barbara Cawley '63 and Mary Ellen Coleman '68, served as committee co-chairs of this very speial evening. Guests were welcomed by Richard McLane, bagpiper on arrival. Isabella Snyder '22, student vocalist, accompanied by Stephen Murphy, pianist, who serenaded guests with a rendition of Danny Boy, all a nod to the Gavins’ proud Irish heritage.
It was a great night for Marywood with beautiful music, fabulous food, and the company of friends coming together. It shaped a memorable time for all while celebrating those whose generosity is helping to further the mission of Marywood in empowering students to discover their passion and realize their dreams.
