Pre-Giving Day Plans: What to do before 4.12
Mention Giving Day to your Marywood friends.
Provide them with the date and tell them you are planning to make a gift.
Use social media to give the heads up on Marywood Giving Day.
Send a quick note the day before to remind them to make a gift.
4.12 - Today's the day! What to do
Share social media posts - Sharing content put out by Marywood social media accounts
as well as Giving Day posts from other volunteers! Liking, sharing, and commenting on Giving Day posts is great to hype the day!
Give reminders - Make sure no one forgets 4.12 is the day! Social media posts will
certainly help - but for people you know better, do something more personal - a text, an
email, a group text to friends, or even mention it in person!
Space it out - Remember, Giving day is a 24-hour affair. Social Media posts can be pre-
scheduled. Space things out over the course of the day to ensure you will reach the
most people possible.
Seek out challenges - If you see any Giving Day post online for certain challenges, be
sure to like and share them! Maybe even considering participating in the challenge to
help reach a goal!
Publicize your gift - Share that you gave, and if you're comfortable, mention what area
you gave to, why you picked it, and encourage others to join you. Let everyone know
you are proud to support Marywood students!!
Post-Giving Day: THANK YOU!
Share the results of Giving Day and remember to say THANK YOU!

SUBJECT: #Marywoodgives today - will you?
Dear NAME,/Hello NAME,/Hi NAME,/NAME,
Today, 4/12, is Marywood annual Giving Day. A day when Marywood donors, alumni, and other friends and supporters of the university show how #Marywoodgives as we make a gift in support of students!
The genorosity the Marywood community, near and far, displays today is what makes Marywood's mission possible. It is how 96% of undergraduate students at Marywood students to receive finacial aid, how the beautiful campus is able to continually improve to meet the needs of students, and how young men and women are given the tools they need to become future leaders in the world.
I'm writing to you today to ask you two things:
1) Make a gift to Marywood - No matter how much you give, every gift counts. Giving is easy - go to marywood.edu/makeagift to make a gift online, or call 570-348-6238 to give over the phone. I have made a gift today [OPTIONAL IF YOU FEEL COMFORTABLE/IT FEELS APPROPRIATE STATING YOUR GIFT] of $X to [INSERT AREA YOU GAVE TO HERE] - I hope you will be able to make a gift as well.
2) Spread the word about Giving Day - just like I'm reaching out to you, reach out to people in your network and ask if they can make a gift to Marywood today and if they will spread the word about Giving Day. It could be people you can talk to in person, a group of friends you can email or text, or a social media post made on Facebook, Twitter, or whatever social media platform(s) you use. If you need help or ideas on how to spread the word, go to marywood.edu/GDtoolkit to check out the Giving Day toolkit. If your outreach leads to even a few more people knowing and donating on Giving Day, it will exponentially increase your impact!
Thank you for taking the time to hear me out. I hope you will make a gift and spread the word today for Giving Day! Visit marywood.edu/givingday for more information, and again, thank you in advance for whatever help you can give!

Interested in writing your own social media content to promote Giving Day? That's great! Make sure you understand the main points of writing for Here are a few tips to make sure you get your message across effectively. You can also go to our message templates in the Giving Library for pre-written content - use them as a starting point for your own ideas, or just fill in the blanks and use them exactly!
Tone - the tone varies from platform to platform, but in general it's best to use a friendly yet professional tone. Avoid using heavy amounts of slang, jargon, or abbreviations, but write in a conversational tone. Facebook has a more personal tone with longer-lasting messages compared to quick-hitting Tweets on Twitter.
Audience - Similar to tone, your audience will vary. Get a good idea who you are writing to and how to best approach them - for example, posting on LinkedIn will probably be best written more formally, whereas a text to a friend or group of friends can be more relaxed.
Length - Different platforms enforce different character limits - Twitter will give you a much shorter character limit than Facebook, and Facebook will have a limit compared to an email or personal blog. Please try to keep your message as concise as possible while still getting your point across. Use strong, clear, unambiguous language in your posts. Graphics can catch people's eye and make content more likely to be read. Many platforms, such as Facebook and Twitter, actively encourage the use of images, GIFs, videos, and other content, don't be afraid to experiment! Please try to avoid spelling and grammatical mistakes - typos can be jarring, especially in shorter messages, and can distract readers.
Call to Action - Before firing off that email, social media post, text, or any other type of message, ask yourself "what is the purpose of this?" and "is this purpose clear to the reader?" If you're asking people to make a gift, be sure to clearly ask and include the correct donation page link so making a gift is as simple as possible.
Social Media Tagging - Tagging accounts and using hashtags in your post will give you more visibility to reach a larger audience!

Probably the best way to encourage a gift…tell them why Marywood is important to you! When telling people about Giving Day, don't be afraid to let them know why Marywood means so much to you. Share something about Marywood that inspires you to give, such as...
A club, group, or team you were a part of
An experience at Marywood that impacted you
A class or professor that influenced your career
