First day of class for 50 new "green" architecture students. The students will pursue coursework that prepares them for the LEED Professional Accreditation exam - a signature component of the program.

Marywood University opens the new synthetic turf multi-purpose field. The first "official" match involves the defending CSAC women's soccer champion Marywood University Pacers taking on the Wilkes University squad. Construction of the field wrapped up over the summer with amenities such as lights, a storage/electrical building and state-of-the art sound system and scoreboard. SEPTEMBER 1, 2009

Faculty Handbook now on the Web in the Content Management System (CMS) format - During the summer of 2009, Sister Dolores Filicko, Secretary to the University, facilitated the access and use of the Faculty Handbook by transferring the vast amount of data into CMS. The features that Sister utilized make the Handbook enormously user-friendly. Two excellent features are: the "expanded information" link and the "index" which points to related items.

Marywood University's Science Department is awarded $200,000 to support a new biotechnology faculty research position and to provide new opportunities in advanced technology. The grant is funded by the Keystone Innovation Starter Kit Program. Marywood is additionally awarded $150,000 to create new technologies and business opportunities in collaboration with the 13 college and university members of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Technology Institute.

The Winter 2009 Marywood Magazine gives new meaning to "Green". The edition was printed on recycled paper using vegetable-based ink. This process saved 11 fully grown trees, 3,967 gallons of water, and 8 million BTUs of total energy, as well as 656 pounds of solid waste and 1.210 pounds of greenhouse gases.
