"I would not be where I am today without the education, opportunities (both in and out of the classroom environment) and experience that I received throughout my time at Marywood University. Most importantly, what stands out to me now are the relationships that I formed with former professors who have become lifelong mentors."

Overview

The Art Department's 18-credit art history minor is open to all majors on campus. Marywood's close proximity to major museums and resources in New York and Philadelphia make it an ideal place to study art history.

Seniors can benefit from our strong graduate art program by registering for graduate-level art history courses that will count toward the minor (as long as it has not already been taken on the undergraduate level).

Who Should Minor in Art History?

Art students

An art history minor is an attractive option for students majoring in studio art or art therapy, since these programs already require up to 12 credits in art history, which count toward the minor. Art history is a natural complement to studio art training, strengthening the content and articulation of a student's own art.

Anyone interested in history or the arts

Art history draws upon other disciplines to help students develop critical thinking and research skills. It's the perfect complement to a major in history, arts administration, English, philosophy, theater, or any other program.

Anyone pursuing a career in art history

An art history minor helps students prepare for admission to graduate schools, leading to rewarding careers in museum curating, gallery management, teaching, and research.

Educators

A minor in art history gives teachers of all grade levels an edge in today's competitive job market, where interdisciplinary studies are emphasized and art history is often part of the curriculum.
