Sculpture

Our BFA Studio Arts 3D Sculpture track will prepare you for a career in sculpture through a thorough examination of 3D forms and space, with an emphasis on traditional and highly technical skills.

Courses demand a high level of creativity and professionalism. They will expose you to a variety of technical areas:

  • Modeling
  • Carving
  • Forging and fabrication
  • Mold-making and casting
  • Life modeling

Our metalworking facilities, in particular, are highly developed and include a state-of-the-art physical plant. Our foundry is equipped for bronze and aluminum casting, resin bonded sand, and investment mold making. The forging area provides hot metalworking for ferrous and non-ferrous metals. The welding and cutting area includes arc-welding, MIG (Metal Inert Gas), TIG (Tungsten Inert Gas), and plasma arc and flame cutting (both mechanized).

Field trips to major museums provide further exposure to the contemporary sculpture scene. Visiting professional sculptors make presentations at Marywood on a regular basis.
